'The extended body' in Gallery Jaqueline Martins
Shows "Body Expanded" brings unprecedented crop of photographs dealing with the performance, actions and happenings, conducted between 1950 and 1980.

>OPENING: AUGUST 27 - 18H, VISITATION OF AUGUST 27 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2013
>GALLERY JAQUELINE R. MARTINS VIRGÍLIO DE CARVALHO PINTO, 74 - PINHEIROS

Galeria Jaqueline Martins continues the commitment on the series of historical exhibits on contemporary art that has been performing since its inauguration in 2011, an unprecedented crop of photographs that show performances, happenings and actions carried out between 1950 and 1980. The images attempt to stop time and bring ephemeral reflections on these activities designed to last the brief moment of their performance / ritual. Luisa Duarte writes critical text about the exhibition.

Rescued from important private collections in Rome and Turin in Italy, the approximately 110 photographs bring records of performances took place in several cities around the world including: NY, Tokyo, Paris, Rome. Many of them are necessary to allude to the first performance actions of avant-garde and artists who experienced the disruption of patterns hitherto established.

Among the major artists stand out Salvador Dalí, Yves Klein, Francesca Woodman, Joseph Beuys, Gilbert And George, Piero Manzoni, Allan Kaprow, Hermann Nitsch, Dennis Oppenheim, Jannis Kounellis, Nam June Paik, Charlotte Moorman, among others. It is noteworthy documentation of sonic performance 'Concert for TV Cello' 1974 Charlotte Moorman in partnership with Jung Paik Nam, in which Moorman plays a kind of cello created by Paik, three televisions stacked and connected to a camera camcorder circuit closed. As well as the registration of the work 'Art-paint women', 1962 Yves Klein, where the artist leads naked women painted with blue (IKB) as a brush inking, printing the gesture of the author, on the screen, from the female body.

Camp Festival 2013

CAMP is a unique forum and interactive laboratory for sound artists, media artists, VJs and musicians. The nomadic festival takes place in cities throughout Europe and features experimental and electronic music in dialogue with visual art, mostly in the form of projections and installations.

For several days, a group of artists, who belong to the international avant-garde in their field, collaborate on audio-visual projects and present them to the public in a final performance. In the spirit of the Fluxus movement, all works are developed from scratch, on the spot. The concept of CAMP mirrors our hybrid digital era in which improvisation is paramount and in which genres, media, techniques and affiliations are more intertwined than ever before. The event will be accompanied by a panel discussion with Fried Dähn, Thomas Maos and Jörg Scheller.

EXCERPTS FROM CATALOGUE

European Travellers - Art from Cluj Today / Judit Angel

Pag. 97

Alex Mirutziu's performance art focuses on (his own) body, which is the subject of cognition and confrontation  and also serves as a means of communication. In his early works — some of which are on display here — Mirutziu's body problematics are based on sexual identity and the related individual and social conflicts, in which the body is formulated as a political tool (Tears are Precious, Heaven Knows I Feel Miserable Now, Sock Face).

Alex Mirutziu is the most avant-garde of Sabot's artists, participating in 2007 in English director John Britton's experimental master class with seven other heterogeneous performers. Subsequently he toured England with his performative social-commentary Leave Gordon Brown Alone. Mirutziu received international recognition in Madrid and Paris at the Optica Video Art Festival, where he was awarded 'Best Independent Artist', as well as presenting two solo projects (2010 and 2011) at Rudiger Schottle, Munich. His recent collective exhibitions include The Power Plant in Toronto, the National Museum in Warsaw, and Spazio Vault in Prato.
